Question- Why is Powder Coating better than paint?

Answer- Powder Coating is more durable, heat, oil and chemical resistant finish that will outlast paint 10 times longer. It has about 75 percent the hardness of chrome but is very pliable. In addition Powdercoating forms a chemical bond to the metal underneath which makes it almost impossible to chip. Not so with paint.

Question- What is Powder Coating?

Answer- Powder Coating is a process where finely granulated powder is applied to a part with a specially designed gun. The Powder coat gun applies the powder Electro-staticly with a charge from about 10,000 to 30,000 volts. The positively charged powder is attracted to the negatively grounded part. The part  is then placed in an oven and heat cured at approximately 400 degrees.

Question- Can I reduce the cost of the Powder coating any?

Answer- Yes, you can clean the part using a good part cleaner. If you want, you can go one step further and remove any paint. The part must be stripped to bare metal before any Powder Coat finish can be applied. On average, 70 percent of our labor cost is involved with prepping the part before coating. Any time saving to us is a direct cost savings to you.

Question- How do I take care of the finish on Powder Coated parts?

Answer- This is an easy one. Just wash with plenty of water to remove any excess dirt and then wash with warm soapy water and a soft cloth. Rinse off and let dry or you can use a chamois cloth to dry and eliminate the possibility of water spots. While waxing won't hurt the finish, it is not really needed.

Question- When I paint my parts I have to wait for it to dry before I can put them back on. Then I can't wax them for 90 days or longer until the paint cures. How long before the Powder Coat finish is cured?

Answer- This is another easy one. There is no curing time for a Powder Coated part. The total curing process is done when it is in the oven. It goes from a Powder state to a liquid state and then a molecular change state. Once it comes out of the oven and cools down it is completely ready for service.
